2017-18 Digital Media Internship - Orange Bowl Committee (Miami Lakes, FL)

The ORANGE BOWL COMMITTEE Inc., (OBC), based in Miami Lakes, was created in 1935 with the mission of generating tourism for South Florida through an annual football game and supporting events. The OBC is seeking highly motivated candidates for its 2017-18 Digital Media Internship Program.  The Orange Bowl Internship Program is available year-round.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Intern will learn and be exposed to:

  • Inner workings of major non-profit sports and event organization

  • The world of digital media and how imperative it is to stay relevant and engaging in the digital marketplace

  • Exposure to editing and maintenance of the Orange Bowl website

  • Learn about the creation and delivery of Orange Bowl social media campaigns

  • Participation with developing creative ideas for social media engagement

  • Acquire knowledge with research and documentation of new digital media tools and platforms

  • Participation with new media logistics such as photo cropping/editing for stories, video filming and editing for website and social media campaigns, etc.

  • Learn about web and graphic production for special projects

  • Acquire knowledge with developing sweepstakes, contest and promotions on social media

  • Be trained on events and promotions coverage for social and digital projects

  • Other opportunities as may be available

PREREQUISITES 

  • Pursuing a degree and/or career in Digital Media, Marketing or Public Relations

  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop and strong editing,  writing an typing skills

  • Proficiency with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), video editing and photo editing software is a plus

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds

2017-18 Festival Support Intern - Orange Bowl Committee (Miami Lakes, FL)

SUMMARY:   This is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in working with the administrative and/or operations during the Orange Bowl Festival (December 18-31, 2017). Intern will observe, learn and develop skills necessary to explore career opportunities within a sports organization or a chosen field. Individual may qualify for college credit if allowed by their college/university. This position is an unpaid support internship.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Intern will learn and be exposed to:

  • Inner workings of a major non-profit sports and event organization and how it relates to the community

  • Learning the basic administrative and operational  fundamentals of festival events, within the assigned department(s), during bowl week leading up to game day

  • Opportunity to learn and/or enhance administrative skills such as bank deposits, filing, updating databases, communications, etc.

  • Exposure to the management of logistical needs including but not limited to entertainment, catering, décor, signage, audio/visual, gifts, etc. of festival events

  • Acquire knowledge through the coordination and communication of festival and committee events, event manuals and event meetings

  • Gain knowledge with the research, presentation and management of festival planning, budgets, purchases, expenses, vendor agreements and operational task list

  • Learn about departmental projects and requests per assigned department

Olympic Sports Operations Volunteer Intern - University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA)

The University of California at Berkeley, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.  These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).  We are currently searching for volunteer interns to help with our Olympic Sports Operations unit.

Job Description:

The Olympic Sports Operations Volunteer Intern will work directly with the Olympic Sports Operations staff to provide support for all Men's and Women's Olympic Sports.  This volunteer internship will provide an individual with a significant learning experience through a wide range of aspects pertaining to the day-to-day operations of a NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletic Department. 

The sports supported within the Olympic Sports Operations unit are: Baseball, M/W Crew, Field Hockey, M/W Golf, M/W Gymnastics, W Lacrosse, M Rugby, M/W Soccer, Softball, M/W Swimming & Diving, M/W Tennis, M/W Track & Field and Cross Country, and M/W Water Polo.

Please note that this is an unpaid internship.  Selected candidates may be asked to work non-traditional hours, including some nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day operational support to Olympic Sports teams.
  • Assist coaches with athletic event planning and execution, including potential game day support.
  • Help coordinate special events (e.g. recruiting events, team banquets, fundraising events, post-season championships).
  • Assist with developing and executing marketing plans.
  • Communicate with alumni, donors, and friends of the programs.
  • Troubleshoot issues that coaches encounter both within the department and with external constituents.
  • Assist with budget development and management.
  • Prepare paperwork for purchasing and/or travel reconciliation.
  • Serve as a liaison between coaches and department staff (e.g. Facilities, Event Management, Athletic Communications, Business & Finance, and Development).
  • Additional opportunities to assist the Director of Championships when selected to host conference and post-season championships.

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Events Management Intern - University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA)

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.  These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).  We are currently seeking 1 Events Management Intern.

Description of Position:  The Events Management Intern will work directly with the Events Management staff to provide support for all Men’s and Women’s Division I sports at UC Berkeley. This position will involve assisting the Event Managers and leading event staff in the planning, preparation and execution of game operations for all home athletic events. This position will provide individuals with significant learning experience through a wide range of aspects of crowd management, security and safety and game day operations in intercollegiate sports. 

The sports supported by the Events Management unit are: Baseball, M/W Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Field Hockey, Football, M/W Gymnastics, W Lacrosse, Rugby, M/W Soccer, Softball, M/W Swimming & Diving, M/W Tennis, M/W Track & Field, Volleyball, M/W Water Polo. The Events Management unit also supports facility rentals and other intercollegiate athletics events as needed. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day support in the Events Management Office.
  • Assist in the development of game day operations for different sports in various athletic venues.
  • Support the set-up and breakdown of athletic events.
  • Lead Events Management student staff on game day to execute various tasks and responsibilities.
  • Interact with coaches, officials, department staff, security personnel and officers, vendors, and guests while providing excellent customer service experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and think critically.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible, fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

Description of Position: 

The 2017 – 2018 Gameday Marketing/Fan Experience internship will offer real world experience in the industry. Interns will have the opportunity to plan and execute gameday promotions under the supervision of a fulltime staff member for the following sports: Volleyball – Men’s Basketball - Women’s Basketball – Baseball – Softball - Gymnastics.  Every intern will be required to work all Football home games. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Cal Athletics Marketing/Fan Experience staff in the development, coordination and implementation of marketing and promotional efforts
  • for all 30 sports, and any specific sport to which you are assigned.
  • Attend scheduled monthly intern staff meetings, intern huddle meetings and optional intern development events.
  • Work Tailgate Town prior to each home football game and select special events.
  • Fulfill sponsored elements such as logo exposure, PA announcements, promotions, and events
  • Improve the atmosphere at each event through the use of games, giveaways, contests, trivia and music, etc.
  • Learn about the sports marketing field and HAVE FUN!

Travel Intern - University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA)

Departmental Overview:

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.  These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).  We are currently seeking an intern who will work in the Cal Athletics Travel Department.  This is a one-year internship.

Description of Position: The intern will assist the Cal Athletic Travel Department, supporting all aspects of Intercollegiate Athletic travel.  Individuals will develop skills to help plan and arrange airfare, lodging, and transportation for team travel, coaches’ recruiting trips, prospective student athletes’ official visits to campus, and staff travel.  The intern will learn about and also help to enforce cost containment strategies, aid coaches in maintaining their travel budgets, and reconcile all expenses and invoices associated with travel.  

Responsibilities:

Travel Arrangements:

  • Assist with all travel arrangements for the Athletic Department.  This includes team travel (30 Intercollegiate teams), recruiting (100 coaches traveling year round throughout the world), visiting prospective student athletes, staff and local travel.
    • Begin to research and negotiate the terms/conditions/rates for team travel accommodations with outside vendors for team hotels, meal functions, and ground transportation. 

    • Help secure, review, and process contracts and direct bill applications for hotels and bus companies. 

    • Aid in coordinating trip details and updating changes the week of travel.  This will include providing hotels with rooming lists, team itineraries, and special instructions from the coaches, as well as confirming flight times, pick up and drop off locations, and times for ground transportation.  

    • Compile Team Travel Informational Packets for each team the week of travel.

    • Work with coaches and budget managers to coordinate upcoming year’s travel.

  • Serve as the business office liaison with corporate sponsors in the travel sector.  

    • Drive business to designated corporate sponsors.

    • Track trade usage for accounting purposes.

  • Schedule and manage the Athletic Department’s vans.

  • Act as the main point of contact for local travel reservations – hotels, rental cars and airport transfers.

Travel Administration:

  • Learn and enforce proper procedure for all travel arrangements, including using the correct forms and obtaining proper approval levels.
  • Review and process invoices for payment.
  • Monitor the use of Department, travel-specific, trade agreements (hotels, rental cars, parking cards).
  • Maintain detailed files on a per-sport, per-trip basis and follow up with vendors to ensure payment s are made in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor requests and distribution of travel advance checks and distribute.
  • Help issue, facilitate and track corporate card (direct bill) submissions and numbers. Educate staff on proper use.
  • Update various IA department systems and filing mechanisms in order to track trips, hotel reservations, flight itineraries, confirmations, etc.
  • Complete post-season reimbursement paperwork for conference and NCAA
  • Field phone calls made to the Travel Office.
  • Copy, file, and fax Travel Department request forms, contracts, invoices, and purchase orders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent computer skills. 
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Advanced customer service skills.
  • The ability to problem solve, multi-task, handle and prioritize a heavy workload, and perform under pressure. 
  • Organized and detail oriented.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree or fulfilling final credits required to complete Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Master’s degree candidate preferred.

Customer Service Gameday Intern - University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA)

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics staff consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.  These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in various sports events annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).  We are currently seeking a team of Customer Service Gameday Interns for the upcoming athletic season.

Description of Position: The Customer Service Gameday Intern team will work on the execution of service initiatives for Cal Athletics. The selected candidates will learn how to prepare and execute customer service plans on gamedays. Hired interns will be paid $85 per game. 

Responsibilities:

  • Mandatory to work all football home games. Schedule is available on calbears.com
  • Work with external operations personnel including sales and customer service, digital marketing, fan experience, event management, ticket operations to provide game day customer service.
  • Game day event management (pre-game, in-game, and post-game responsibilities). 
  • Coordination of season ticket holder events and game day activities, including season ticket holder item distribution, sales and customer service table set-up, and guest services.
  • Responsible for assisting with ADA patrons throughout the duration of the game.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a time sensitive, team oriented environment.
  • Ability to lift, carries, and transport boxes and materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work the following schedule: 
    • All 2017 home football games (schedule found at calbears.com) starting at least 3 hours prior to kickoff and post-game.
    • Select Friday's before home football games.
    • Must be able to make pre-season trainings.
  • Experience working in a customer relations role.
  • Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including tact and political acumen to effectively represent the institution.

Job Description:

The Athletic Communications Interns will work directly with the Athletic Communications staff to provide support for all of Cal’s intercollegiate sports, providing an individual with a significant learning experience through a wide range of aspects pertaining to the day-to-day operations of an NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletic Department.
