Ticket Operations Intern - Intercollegiate Athletics (Berkeley, CA)

Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 250 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.  These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).  We are currently seeking a Ticket Operations Intern who will work within the department’s Ticket Operations unit.

Responsibilities

The Ticket Operations Intern will work directly with the Director of Ticket Operations/Assistant Athletic Director – Ticket Operations & Service to ensure all ticketing operations for each sport are accomplished including mailings, will call, ticket printing, and player guest admissions. The intern will act as a liaison with coaches and the director of operations for each primary sport. This internship is designed to expose the individual to all aspects of ticket office operations. The intern will gain valuable experience and insight into a variety of areas within the college athletic administration. 

Responsibilities
Work directly with the Director of Ticket Operations/Assistant Athletic Director – Ticket Operations & Service to assist in all aspects of the Cal Athletic Ticket Office day-to-day operations. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in day-to-day activities in the ticket office: mailing tickets, customer service on the phone and at the window, assist in supervising student workers, answering emails.
  • Use of Paciolan will include: processing mail, fax, and window orders, on-line ticketing, ticket reconciliations, data entry and complimentary tickets.
  • The candidate will work Football and Men’s Basketball games as assigned.
  • Primary sport responsibilities are Women’s Soccer, Women’s Gymnastics and Men’s Water Polo
  • This position will work with Facilities, Marketing, Events Management, and other units within the Athletic Department to coordinate game days
  • Light cleaning/lifting and other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required or equivalent training/experience
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills,
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced customer service environment 
  • Ability to work nights and weekends 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a ticket office and working knowledge of Paciolan/Spectra ticketing systems
  • Master’s Degree or internship credit required for a degree
  • Familiarity with NCAA and PAC-12 Conference regulations and procedures 
  • Demonstration of high levels of energy, creativity, and initiative.

Athletics Marketing/Fan Experience Internship - Intercollegiate Athletics (Berkeley, CA)

OVERVIEW

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.  These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).  We are currently seeking (3) Marketing & Fan Experiences Interns.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The University of California Athletics Department is looking to hire (3) Marketing & Fan Experience Interns for the department; this individual will work on the in-game experience for athletic events through various creative efforts and also grassroots marketing campaigns.  This position reports to the Assistant Director of Fan Experience.  The selected candidate will learn how to develop and implement marketing and promotion plans for designated sports including football, volleyball, men’s & women’s soccer, men’s & women’s basketball, gymnastics, baseball, and softball and other sports as assigned.  Please note this is a non-paid position.  

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the development and implementation of in-game planning and promotional efforts for assigned sports and special events that enhance the image and awareness of Cal Athletics with a key focus on maximizing the fan experience at events.
  • Assist with grassroots marketing efforts including flyer distribution, email marketing, social media and phone calls to increase attendance at events

  • Be the point person for a majority of special events organized by the Marketing & Fan Experience Department.
  • Work additional events depending on which sport the intern is assigned, which may include volleyball, men’s & women’s basketball, gymnastics, baseball and softball.
  • Assist with day to day management of Cal Spirit Groups including scheduling, gear distribution, and website
  • Work with external operations personnel including sales and customer service, athletic ticket office, event management, and facilities to learn how to execute a successful event.
  • Gameday event management (pre-game, in-game and post-game responsibilities).
  • Coordination of promotional events and game day activities, including promotion item distribution, contests, information table set-up, flyer distribution and on-field presentations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

  • Experience working in college athletics or other sports marketing organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite.

  • Ability to work in a time sensitive, team orientated environment.

The University of Louisville Athletic Association (ULAA) and its partner, adidas, have developed a real-world, career-building internship model to prepare the next generation of athletic administrators and sports industry professionals. This exclusive nine-month program offers hands-on experience and programming opportunities for talented, hardworking graduate degree-seeking students to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities in athletic administration. The internship prepares interns for an entry- or mid-level position in athletic administration and/or the sports industry.

Students are selected equally from both the University of Louisville and abroad who share the same passion for sports that drives not only Louisville Athletics, but adidas as well.

Interns will be assigned to various departments within ULAA depending on preferences, interests, and/or skill sets.

Ticket Operations and Service Internship - University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics (Seattle, WA)

Summary

The Husky Ticket Office is seeking candidates for Ticket Operations & Service internship.  This internship will be a full time commitment (30 - 40 hours per week) for approximately one year (July, 2016 until June 2017).  

The Husky Ticket Office intern will gain general knowledge in all aspects of operating an intercollegiate athletics ticket office.  This individual will be highly motivated and detail oriented. Ticketed sports include football, men’s & women’s basketball, men’s & women’s soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, baseball, softball and other special events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•       Act as ticket manager for men’s & women’s soccer and secondary manager as needed for other sports.

•       Assist in customer account maintenance, including allocation requests.

•       Attend operations and ticket sales and service meetings to gain perspective to the department as a whole.

•       Aid in the building and managing of seasons and events within ticketing software as well as implementation of postseason and special events.

•       Gain leadership experience by learning and practicing how to supervise a game-day box office. Game day will include part-time staff supervision, ticket sales windows, will call, customer service, and player guest entrance operations.

•       Front line sales and service position helping customers who walk up to ticket windows, answering phones, and responding to general emails.  Sales inventory include full season tickets, mini plan and single game tickets.

•       Help with other general office duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

•       Enrollment in a sports management graduate program or equivalent school.

•       Desire to start a career in collegiate athletics or sports ticketing industry.

•       Computer proficient (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and detail oriented.

•       Ability to work non-traditional hours; evenings and weekends required for event management.

•       Customer service or retail sales experience; ability to multi task and enjoy working in a fast paced environment.

The Valero Alamo Bowl is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that produces a calendar of events highlighted by a post-season college football game between the Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences played in San Antonio, Texas the last week of December.

The bowl annually hires three (3) full-time interns focusing on events/hospitality, ticket sales/marketing as well as sports information/digital media. While each intern will be involved with aspects of each area to gain a more broad experience while serving the overall goal of our organization, the main responsibilities of each position include, but are not limited to the following:

TICKET SALES / MARKETING

  • Oversee online event ticket marketing and sales programs as well as season tickets which includes sale, payment and fulfillment.
  • Coordinate ticket sales campaigns, including lead generation, contact and follow up inclusive of customer correspondence via phone, email and in person.
  • Account maintenance and some reporting functions utilizing Archtics ticketing software.
  • Assist with corporate partnership research, proposal preparation, communication and fulfillment.
  • Oversee premium package sales and retention efforts related to VIP hospitality, suites and group outings.

  • Organize press operations during Bowl Week including set-up of the media hospitality, workroom and press conferences at the media hotel as well as volunteer coordination.
  • Coordinate the bowl’s public relations efforts including writing/editing press releases, setting up press conferences & teleconferences as well as organize & manage the press box.
