2017-18 Public Relations Internship - Orange Bowl Committee (Miami Lakes, FL)

The ORANGE BOWL COMMITTEE Inc., (OBC), based in Miami Lakes, was created in 1935 with the mission of generating tourism for South Florida through an annual football game and supporting events. The OBC is seeking highly motivated candidates for its 2017-18 Public Relations Internship Program.  The Orange Bowl Internship Program is available year-round.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Intern will learn and be exposed to:

  • Inner workings of major non-profit sports and event organization
  • Public Relations efforts such as: Media Relations, Media Pitching, Writing and Editing of Press Releases, Strategic Communications, Media Stunts, Advertising, Marketing Communications, Promotions, In-Game Entertainment and Event Management

Department Operations:

  • Participate in writing press releases, media advisories, internal communications and other media material as directed by the Coordinator of Public Relations
  • Learn and participate with all facets of organizational public relations and community outreach efforts
  • Exposed to the establishment of relationships with local and national media in promoting OBC programming and events
  • Ability to attend local events with the marketing and promotions team
  • Learn and participate with Orange Bowl social media efforts as needed

Media/Public Relations:

  • Detailed and hands-on maintenance of relevant local and regional media contact lists and in the creation of media pitches for stories regarding OBC events, programs and initiatives
  • Participate with PR calendar listings, all media opportunities surrounding Orange Bowl events and promotional appearances (if applicable)
  • Learn to create and plan PR events, media stunts, and community appearances (locally as well as regionally)
  • Exposed to logistics associated with the creation and distribution of news releases, content development for OBC programming and events and the Orange Bowl communications plan(s)
  • Learn to identify and secure media appearances and press opportunities for Orange Bowl initiatives

 Media Operations:

  • Participation in the coordination of OBC media operations, media press conferences, and media days and media press boxes for all events
  • Acquire knowledge in the implementation of Orange Bowl game week including: press security and escorts, customer service, feedback reports and surveys

Publications:

  • Be trained in the production of Orange Bowl publications

Website:

  • Participate in opportunities as it relates to updating the website

General:

  • Execute Assistance on special projects
  • Other opportunities as may be available

PREREQUISITES

  • Recent graduate or currently pursuing a degree or career in Public Relations Marketing, Communications, or Sports Management
  • Public Relations training or experience preferred
  • Motivated, highly organized, and possess good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all corporate, personnel and research matters
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint
  • Training writing in AP Style a plus
  • Training creating and building media lists a plus
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Event training or experience a plus
  • Video editing skills a plus
  • Possess or demonstrate superb attention to detail
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds

2017-18 Festival Support Intern - Orange Bowl Committee (Miami Lakes, FL)

POSITION:            Festival Support Intern

DEPARTMENT:    Various

REPORTS TO:     Department Liaison

STATUS:              Internship - Unpaid

SUMMARY:   This is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in working with the administrative and/or operations during the Orange Bowl Festival (December 18-31, 2017). Intern will observe, learn and develop skills necessary to explore career opportunities within a sports organization or a chosen field. Individual may qualify for college credit if allowed by their college/university. This position is an unpaid support internship.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Intern will learn and be exposed to:

  • Inner workings of a major non-profit sports and event organization and how it relates to the community

  • Learning the basic administrative and operational  fundamentals of festival events, within the assigned department(s), during bowl week leading up to game day

  • Opportunity to learn and/or enhance administrative skills such as bank deposits, filing, updating databases, communications, etc.

  • Exposure to the management of logistical needs including but not limited to entertainment, catering, décor, signage, audio/visual, gifts, etc. of festival events

  • Acquire knowledge through the coordination and communication of festival and committee events, event manuals and event meetings

  • Gain knowledge with the research, presentation and management of festival planning, budgets, purchases, expenses, vendor agreements and operational task list

  • Learn about departmental projects and requests per assigned department

  • Other opportunities as may be available

    PREREQUISITES

    Pursuing a degree and/or career in Sports Management or Event Planning

  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age

  • Valid driver’s license

Graphic Design Intern - University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA)

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 250 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.  These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).  We are currently seeking a Graphic Design Intern.

Description of Position:

The Graphic Design Intern will support our team in building graphics in digital and print formats, and other promotional/branding assets. This position requires a highly creative person who can work through integrated projects. Candidates must be able to collaborate in a team environment—interpreting direction from our graphic designers and possible collaboration with the film team. Supporting the graphic designers to design an array of content to use across digital platforms including but not limited to social and digital media. This will also include photo manipulation, photo composition, presentation layout, and some print collateral. Work in a dynamic group and actively participate on any given project in a fast-paced environment. Work on multiple projects at once while meeting scheduled deadlines. Maintain a familiarity with social media, digital trends, and other relevant media. This position will run through the fall semester with the possibility to extend into the spring semester.

Please note that this is an unpaid internship. Selected candidates may be asked to work non-traditional hours, including some nights and weekends.  

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for supporting the Creative team in fulfilling the visual communication needs of the Athletics Department. They will need to use their skills to help plan, analyze, and create effective designs; all while communicating and collaborating with the creative team and the end user to meet their needs. This position also serves as an ambassador of Cal Athletics and is responsible for adhering to and communicating the Department’s brand identity.

Required Qualifications:  

  • Ability to work quickly and support multiple projects
  • Proven design work in graphic design, layout, typography, and social media.
  • Skill in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Experience in After Effects a bonus. Willingness to improve in these areas required.
  • Willingness to gain knowledge of basic file maintenance and image storage.
  • Skills to effectively support Creative team in production of visual materials that meet and satisfy the needs of the client.
  • Ability to follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Ability to accept feedback as part of the creative process and educate clients on design theory and/or use that feedback to improve design skills.
  • Skills in collaboration to best meet goals and objectives of clients.
  • Very organized and has good attention to detail.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
  • Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the Pacific-12 Conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the Berkeley campus of the University of California adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in (or having a passion for) the sports industry.
