Facilities and Event Operations Intern - Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, GA)

Georgia Tech Athletics has an exciting opportunity for a Facilities and Event Operations Internship.  Our NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program is one steeped in history and success, while embracing strategic innovation.  Tech fans are passionate about their support of their beloved Yellow Jackets and cherish the many traditions involved with the program. The Georgia Tech Athletic Association sponsors varsity intercollegiate athletics competition in 17 sports for the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Overview: 

This internship is a ten month stipend program. It will start August 1st, 2017 and run until June 1st, 2018. The stipend will be $1,800 per month along with a monthly parking permit. The selected intern will be given responsibilities to help the Facilities and Event Operations department function at a high level while allowing the intern to grow professionally.

There are two internship positions available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate shipping and receiving for the athletic department.
  • General office duties.
  • Assist with event management with opportunity to become a gameday manager.
  • Assist with day to day up keep of athletic facilities including walkthroughs and work orders.
  • Assist with setup and tear down of events.
  • Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with key internal and external constituents.
  • Cooperate with the Athletics compliance office regarding NCAA rules and policies, including reporting requirements, and make a determined effort to ensure that staff and teams are in compliance.
  • Exhibit the GT Athletics core values of character, excellence, teamwork, and innovation.  Promote these values throughout the organization with a focus on fulfilling the GT Athletics mission.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A general working knowledge of athletic events.
  • Ability to work outside of typical business hours as needed, potentially including but not limited to evenings, weekend, and holidays.
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds.

INTERNSHIP: Sales & Service Department - Sales Operations - Minnesota Gophers (Minneapolis, MN)

Supervisor:     Chad Rasmussen – Director of Sales & Service

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and/or Business

Internship Description:

 You will be supervised by the Assistant Director of Sales & Service. You will have an initial period of observation, followed by supervision as needed. Review will happen on a daily basis. You are expected to ask for assistance when needed. The Director and Assistant Directors of Sales & Service will mentor this internship. A general description of the internship opportunity is as follows:

Receive “hands on” learning experiences with:

  1. Game Day/Event Preparation– which includes fulfilling staffing assignments and organizing player pass lists
  2. Box office operations on game day
  3. Communicating with fans and season ticket holders via email, over the phone and in person
  4. Processing of ticket orders for all sports
  5. Event reconciliation– which includes auditing, reporting and daily balancing from window sales
  6. Configuring ticket specials with the marketing department
  7. Allocating season parking passes for football, men’s basketball and men’s hockey
  8. Supervising Fan Relations representatives

You will be invited to participate in an on-going ICA intern development program.

2017-18 Partnerships Fulfillment Internship - Orange Bowl Committee (Miami Lakes, FL)

The ORANGE BOWL COMMITTEE Inc., (OBC), based in Miami Lakes, was created in 1935 with the mission of generating tourism for South Florida through an annual football game and supporting events. The OBC is seeking highly motivated candidates for its 2017-18 Partnerships Fulfillment Internship Program.  The Orange Bowl Internship Program is available year-round.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Intern will learn and be exposed to:

  • Inner workings of major non-profit sports and event organization and how it relates to the community

  • Learning basic fundamentals such as coordination and execution of sponsor deliverables during festival events.

  • Ability to execute sponsorship task by working closely and attending with partnership staff various activities and business related forums

  • Learn about departmental processes needed to ensure that sponsor deliverables are being accurately represented.

  • Gain knowledge with the research, presentation and management of annual plans, budgets, purchases, expenses of pertinent sponsor information.

  • Acquire knowledge through the coordination and development of sponsorship activities and events including game program ads, in –game video spots, signage, décor, gifts, and donated products.

  • Participation in the coordination of the OBC’s promotions such as:

    • Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance Park of the Week

    • Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance Championships

    • Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance Cheer and Dance Championships

    • Orange Bowl Basketball Classic

    • Orange Bowl Kick-Off Party

    • Orange Bowl Coaches Luncheon

    • Orange Bowl Rhapsody

    • Orange Bowl Game Day Fan Zone

    • Orange Bowl VIP Pregame Party

    • Orange Bowl Game

  • Other opportunities as may be available

    PREREQUISITES

  • Pursuing a degree and/or career in Sports Management, Public Administration or related field.  

  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Publisher and typing skills

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds

Note: Preferred commitment of a minimum of 20 hours a week consistent with academic demands/schedule
