UCLA Athletic Performance Internship Winter-Spring 2018

The University Of California, Los Angeles is accepting applications for the position of Athletic Performance Intern. The Winter-Spring internship will run from January-May 2018. Duties include assisting the full-time Athletic Performance coaching staff in all aspects of UCLA Athletic Performance program including but not limited to warm-ups, strength and speed training, conditioning, and athlete assessment. Minimum requirements include, a bachelor’s degree or a degree in progress in an exercise science related field, CPR and First Aid certified, and a strong desire to pursue a career in collegiate strength and conditioning. Effective August 1st, 2015, NCAA legislation mandates that only certified personnel can coach athletes unsupervised, therefore, CSCS or CSCCA certification is preferred.  A minimum time commitment of 30 hours per week is required. These positions are for VOLUNTEER coaches, no compensation will be provided. Screening of applications has begun and will continue until all positions are filled.

Women'as Basketball Assistant Director, Operations - University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA)

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.  These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).  We are currently seeking an Assistant Director of Operations for our Women’s Basketball team.

Description of Position: 

The Women’s Basketball Assistant Director, Operations will provide administrative support for all Women’s Basketball program activities.  The incumbent will be responsible for database management for all aspects of the program, including but not limited to recruiting, alumni relations, and fan and donor communications.  He/she will serve as the office manager, responsible for inventory and ordering office supplies, processing expense reimbursements, and coordinating travel needs for the coaching staff. In addition, the incumbent will assist with annual special events (i.e. post-game receptions, donor events, alumni events, Pac-12 tournament, etc.)  In conjunction with the coaching staff, the incumbent will assist the Director of Operations and staff, with projects as assigned. This position will also play an important role in the development of the team’s annual community service plan.


Recruiting Correspondence (20%):

  • Organize, maintain, update all files for current and potential recruitable student athletes in the computer database.
  • Prepare and maintain contact lists of players and coaches.
  • Work closely with assistant organize, create, and distribute mail-outs: These include inspirational sayings, motivational sayings, information regarding the University (i.e., housing, student body, academics, admissions, etc.).

Administrative Support (30%):

  • Check the Women’s basketball emails daily; respond and distribute as necessary.
  • Respond to all donations made to the Women’s Basketball program.
  • Serve as the liaison to the Business Office - process all travel and expense reports/reimbursements, work with outside vendors to ensure that orders/payments are received.
  • Assist with any travel arrangements necessary for the coaching staff.
  • Inventory and order all office supplies and coordinate any service needs to external units/vendors.
  • Have knowledge of NCAA rules as it pertains to Women’s Basketball.

Special Events and Programs (15%):

  • Help to plan/schedule special events surrounding the program.

Program Manager (15%):

  • Oversee the Student Manager and Practice Players Program: includes recruiting and maintaining students, creating a schedule based on the team’s practice/game schedule, assigning responsibilities and tasks.
  • Organize the Community Service/Outreach activities for the team.
  • Oversee the “Ball Kid” program: includes logging sign-ups, correspondence with parents, game-day supervision.

Camps and Clinics (15%):

  • Assist the Director of Operations with all aspects of Camp Administration.
  • Organize and prepare purchase requests for supplies/materials necessary for camp.
  • Prepare instructional guides and folders for campers and coaches.
  • Coordinate Camp Reunion Day and periodic e-mails throughout the season.

Other   (5%):

  • Ensure confidentiality of information.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications:  

  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks, remain organized, deal with a heavy workload and prioritize work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, Google Applications.
  • Experience with social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, other.
  • Knowledge of NCAA recruiting policies.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/experience.
