On July 1, 2009, Larry Scott joined the then Pac-10 Conference as its sixth Commissioner, succeeding Tom Hansen who had been in the role the previous 26 years. Over the past 6 years Commissioner Scott has led the transformation and evolution of the Conference into a nationally and internationally recognized collegiate sports brand. In July 2011, the Pac-10 officially became the Pac-12 Conference with the addition of the University of Colorado and the University of Utah.

The Conference has a tradition as the “Conference of Champions,” earning more than 175 NCAA team titles over the past 20 years, and has led the nation in NCAA Championships in 46 of the last 52 years. Report to: Pac-12 Coordinator of Football Officiating or such other person designated by the Pac-12 Conference.

Assignment Summary: We are seeking qualified candidates for part-time contract on-field official and replay official assignment to officiate Pac-12 football games.

Major Responsibilities:

·       Officiate Pac-12 Conference football games, may include any or all of the following: spring and fall scrimmages, Pac-12 Conference football games, non-Conference games, Pac-12 Football Championship Game and possible post season bowl games.

·       Comply and be bound by the constitution and by-laws, rules and regulations of the NCAA and Pac-12 Conference.

Key Competencies:

·       Highly skilled official; must have a minimum of 5 years of football officiating experience with a thorough understanding of collegiate rules, interpretations and 8-person mechanics.

·       Prior experience in a similar capacity expected.

·       Be physically fit in a condition to successfully perform the services required on a continuing basis.

·       Understanding of college sports.

·       Must have exceptional positive attitude and team based philosophy.

·       Must have exceptional oral / written communication and interpersonal skills.

·       All candidates pass a background check.

The Administrative Fellowship:

The Pac-12 Conference Sports Management Fellowship will have a 12-month term with a projected start date of July 1, 2017. The core focus of the program is that the experience is beneficial to the Fellow and to the college athletic community in general and will help provide an initial entry into the profession of athletic administration.

In addition to the day-to-day core functions described below, the Sports Management Fellowship will work to provide opportunities such as working with a mentor in the Conference office, meeting with key leadership, observation of meetings, job shadowing, conducting informational interviews to explore job interests, visiting member institutions, networking with individuals within institution athletic departments, as well as other opportunities identified as appropriate relative to the Fellowship incumbent.

Sports Management Fellowship Core Functions:

Awards Program: ?

·       Assist in management and tracking of awards to individual and team champions

·      Assist in compiling the ballots and serve on the All-Academic awards program selection committee

·      Assist in the distribution of awards to All-Academic award recipients

Championships Administration: ?

·      Assist with the preparation and distribution of signage and other promotional materials for the championships

·      Assist in the administration of the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament. ?

·      Assist championships events directors with management of activities?

·      Administer and compile evaluations of championships events

·      Assist at various Pac-12 championships

Benchmarking:

·      Conduct research regarding current state of Pac-12 sports

·      Gather data from Pac-12 Championships and NCAA Championships using Conference provided software

·      Present information to Conference Staff and Council Members

Scheduling

·      Manage all post season events on Pac-12 and School websites

·      Input and check accuracy of data on Uber scheduling platform

Officiating:

·      Assist in the preparation and execution of designated officiating clinics

·      Distribution and collection of contracts to Conference officials

·      Input and manage all games in online officiating scheduling and payment sites

·      Assist in preseason, postseason and day-to-day management of officiating programs 

Public Relations/Communications?

·      Serve as primary contact for a Pac-12 sport

·      Track player of the month and create press releases for use on Pac-12 Website and Social Media

·      Attend Championship

·      Create post season release

Marketing

·      Assist Marketing team at Football, Men’s Basketball, and Women’s Basketball Media Days

Student-Athlete Advisory committee:

·      ?Serve as the secondary liaison to the Pac-12 SAAC

·      Prepare and assemble meeting materials for semi-annual Pac-12 Conference SAAC meetings?

·      Work with hotel sales representatives to solidify rooming assignments and food and beverage orders. ?

·       Organize a community service project for each meeting

·      Assist in management of nominations and selection procedures for Pac-12 Sportsmanship Award and Pac-12 Leadership Award

General: ?

·      Review drafts of agendas for Conference coaches meetings?

·      Observe selected Conference meetings in Bay Area and assist with facilitation of meetings

·      Assist in management of nominations and selection procedures for Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarship

·      Assist with miscellaneous research for Conference staff

Notes: The position will also include other duties as assigned.

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each core function as listed above. The preferred educational and employment requirements are listed below:

• BA/BS from four-year college or university?• Have experience as an undergraduate varsity student-athlete • Have an interest in intercollegiate athletics administration and in pursuing a career in some aspect of this field?• Willing to relocate to San Francisco Bay Area, California.
