On July 1, 2009, Larry Scott joined the then Pac-10 Conference as its sixth Commissioner, succeeding Tom Hansen who had been in the role the previous 26 years. Over the past two years Commissioner Scott has led the transformation and evolution of the Conference into a nationally and internationally recognized collegiate sports brand. The Communications Fellowship:
The Pac-12 Conference has two Communications Fellowship openings. The Communications Fellowship will have a 12-month term with a projected start date of July 1, 2014. The core focus of the program is that the experience is beneficial to the Fellow and to the college athletics community in general and will help provide an initial entry into the profession of athletic communications.
 

In addition to the day-to-day core functions described below, the Communications Fellowship will work to provide opportunities such as working with a mentor in the Conference office, meeting with key leadership, observation of meetings, job shadowing, conducting informational interviews to explore job interests, visiting member institutions and networking with individuals within institution athletic departments, as well as other opportunities identified as appropriate relative to the Fellowship incumbent.

Communications Fellowship Core Functions:
• Involved in all aspects of publicizing the Pac-12’s 22-sport program and 12 member institutions.
• Serve as primary media relations contact for Pac-12 institutions for multiple Olympic sports to be assigned. Cultivate positive working relationships with institutional sports information directors and media members.
• Work closely with day-to-day media relations duties regarding football/men’s basketball/women’s basketball.
• Design and edit Pac-12 online publications for football, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, baseball, softball, records books and Year in Review.
• Write press releases for sports as assigned. Compile statistics for various sports and distribute in a timely manner to member institutions and media, and report statistics to the NCAA.
• Creating original content for the official website www.pac-12.com and various social media platforms, including but not limited to writing feature stories, Q&As and more.
• Provide pertinent information to assist in production of games and studio shows for the Pac-12 Networks.
• Expectation to proactively pitch Pac-12 storylines.
• Assist with maintaining official website and various social media platforms.
• Assist in the communications and marketing activities for the Pac-12 Conference’s 14 Championships events.
• Assist with the Players of the Week selection process.
• Assist with the administration of the Conference’s newspaper and magazine internet clip file.
• Archival of press releases and statistics for historical purposes.
• Assist with phone and mail inquiries from media and general public.
• Travel to selected Championship sites and other Conference-sponsored events, such as Media Days.
• Includes other duties as assigned.

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each core function as listed above. The preferred educational and employment requirements are listed below:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or related field
• A minimum of two years experience working in the Sports Information Department or in some capacity in the athletic department, professional athletic environment or college newspaper
• Computer proficient, knowledgeable in desktop publishing, preferably InDesign, and, familiar with The Automated Scorebook and Stat Crew statistical software preferred?
• Posses strong organizational skills, and excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills including interviewing skills.
• Experience with web management, social media platforms and content publishing, preferred.
• Have an interest in intercollegiate athletic administration and in pursuing a career in some aspect of the communications field.
• Must be able to multi-task and work under deadline pressure. 
• Willing to work flexible hours, including nights/weekends and/or holidays during peak seasons
• Willing to relocate to the vicinity of San Francisco, California.

Position Summary

The Coordinator of Football Officiating will operate under the guidance of the General Counsel, Senior Vice President of Business Affairs and he/she will have responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day football officiating operations.  These functions include ability to coordinate and execute officiating programs and initiatives, develop officiating training programs and recruit experienced football officials. This is an Independent Contractor Position.

Major Responsibilities

·      Coordination of entire Football Officiating Program, including all aspects of training, evaluation, and program development.

·      Demonstrated knowledge and ability in leading an officiating program that promotes teamwork, accountability, objectivity, and ethical conduct.

·      Oversight of eight (8) Officiating Supervisors (one Supervisor per on-field officiating position and one Supervisor for instant replay).

·      Responsible for hiring and developing 50+ member officiating staff into best-in-class position.

·      Development of officiating training both in-season and off-season; such training to include video instruction (with voiceover), on field instruction, off-season clinic(s), instructional conference calls, etc.

·      Evaluation and grading of all officials, including instant replay.

·      Present written and oral reports on a myriad of football and officiating issues in a timely manner.

·      Game day functions either (i) on-site at the Conference Command Center in San Francisco or (ii) off-site at game location(s).

·      Assigning officials for Conference and non-conference games; establishing post- season officiating roster, including Pac-12 Football Championship Game and Bowl rosters.

·      In collaboration with the Conference office, communicate with member institution coaches, athletics directors and officials in-season in a prompt and proactive manner.

·      Recruiting of new officials, both on-field and instant replay. Recruiting to include a diverse candidate pool across high school, collegiate and professional ranks.

·      Ability to communicate effectively with the media and conduct on-air presentations for Pac-12 Networks.

·      Provide formal presentations to the Conference office, coaches, and Athletic Directors.

·      Represent Pac-12 at NCAA and Conference meetings.

Key Competencies/Requirements

·      BA/BS from four-year college or university.

·      Extensive football officiating experience at the collegiate and/or professional level.

·      Direct management experience.

·      Proficiency in football officiating software and hardware, including Hudl.

·      Understanding of intercollegiate athletics, and Conference/member institution dynamics. 

·      Must have a positive attitude and collaborative philosophy.

·      Must have exceptional oral/written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to draft detailed and clear memorandum to coaches and Athletic Directors.

·      Must be able to travel extensively during the fall/winter.

·      Ability to multi-task easily, respond effectively to program feedback, and think holistically.

• Participate in weekly, monthly and annual trainings. Which may include conference calls, training videos, in-person clinics, off-season scrimmages and workshops.
• Provide other services as assigned by the Pac-12 Coordinator of Football Officials or Pac-12 Commissioner.
• Comply and be bound by the constitution and by-laws, rules and regulations of the NCAA and Pac-12 Conference.

• Must have a minimum of 5 years of football officiating experience with a thorough understanding of collegiate rules, interpretations and 7-person mechanics.

Position Summary:

The Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer and have responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day accounting functions.  These functions include the revenue cycle, payables cycle, general ledger, fixed assets, cash, payroll, and monthly financial and management reporting.

Sport Management Fellowship Core Functions:

Awards Program:

·      Assist in compiling the ballots and serve on the All-Academic awards program selection committee

·      Prepare rewards for Pac-12 players of the week in all fall, winter, and spring seasons

Championships Administration:

·      Assist with the preparation and distribution of signage and other promotional materials for the championships

·      Assist in the administration of the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament

·      Observe selected Conference meetings in and assist with facilitation of meetings

·      Assist in management of nominations and selection procedures for Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarship
